Push Block prevents damage when rescuing dump trucks with dozers, other machines

by Thingz 2 Do In
Philippi-Hagenbuch has developed the new Push Block to dislodge off-highway trucks when they get stuck, without damaging the truck. The device is custom designed to fit the rear chassis of rigid-frame or articulating trucks ranging from 20 to 400 tons. The company says the Push Block alternative protects the truck from damage, which can occur when using dozers or other equipment to push out a stuck truck. “This type of pushing on the truck can damage the tires, hinge and even the body since there’s no component of a truck designed to take this type of pin-point pressure,” says Josh Swank, […]

Mack debuts mDRIVE automatic transmission in concrete pumper truck configuration

by Thingz 2 Do In
The big news from Mack Trucks at this year’s World of Concrete is that the company will now offer it’s relatively new mDRIVE HD automated transmission in a Mack TerraPro cabover pumper truck configuration. The mDRIVE features a split shaft transmission rather than taking auxiliary power off an engine- or transmission-mounted PTO. This produces more torque than conventional auxiliary drives, which, as you might guess, is just what a concrete pumper needs. Introduced in 2014 for Mack highway trucks and last year in the Mack Granite line of trucks, the mDRIVE is mated to an 11-literMack MP7 engine. The engine […]

Giant transformer heavy-haul job breaks Wash. records: 1M lbs. across 47 mi.

by Thingz 2 Do In
Editor’s Note: This post recounts the experience of a unique heavy haul job carried out by customers of Kenworth trucks. It was written by Ryan Siefkes, a Kenworth spokesman. The hauling company, Omega Morgan, custom built this 48 axle trailer. It’s like a plot for a superhero movie. Boss comes into the shop one day and says: “Boys, I got a big job for you. A heavy haul. One-million pounds” That’s the load and the official weight of a job taken on by Omega Morgan, a Hillsboro, Oregon, company that specializes in heavy rigging and transportation. The job consisted of […]

First Drive Review: The 2019 Ford Ranger plays to win the game

by Thingz 2 Do In
Editor’s Note: This review originally appeared on our sister site Hard Working Trucks. A deep blue Florida sky, cool weather (hey, it was morning still) and a brand new 2019 Ford Ranger FX4 Lariat. Not a bad way to start the day in Cape Coral, Florida. We had made the 500-mile drive from hurricane-battered Panama City in the Panhandle to this area of Florida where the canals might outnumber the streets. There are roughly 300 miles of canals here making it the city with the most navigable canals in the world. And with all these canals come plenty of boats […]

If you need new tires, you might want to go ahead and buy them. Otherwise, you could end up paying more as  tire manufacturers have begun raising prices. Michelin is among the latest tire manufacturers to announce an increase. On December 1 the company raised prices 8 percent in the United States for all commercial brands, products and services, the company says. On January 1, the company will increase prices 5 percent on passenger and light-truck tires under Michelin, BFGoodrich and Uniroyal brands. Michelin cited increased operating costs and other market factors for the rises. It also said, “The increases […]

Chevy unveils redesigned 2020 Silverado HD

by Thingz 2 Do In
2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD Eight months after teasing the new look, Chevrolet has unveiled its redesign of the Silverado HD. Apart from the very loud ‘CHEVROLET’ word mark stamped into the center crossbeam of the grille, the most prominent feature of this redesign is just how tall the nose of this new truck looks. The influence of the 2019 Silverado 1500 is very apparent now that we’ve got a good look at the headlamps and a 3/4 angle of the truck. It somehow achieves a look that is both boxy and curvy at the same time. I’m not sure that’s […]

Jeep unveils long-awaited Gladiator: “Most capable midsize pickup ever”

by Thingz 2 Do In
Considering its name and the crowd, the LA Coliseum would have been a better venue for the unveiling of Jeep’s 2020 Gladiator. Okay, maybe that’s too big, but nonetheless it was packed to standing room only inside the North Plaza tent at the LA Auto Show where after a nearly 30-year hiatus Jeep rolled out its new pickups. Yes, there’s more than one Gladiator because Jeep went big–really big when it came to taking on the growing and highly competitive midsize truck segment. “This is the all new Jeep Gladiator Rubicon,” Tim Kuniskis, head of Jeep, said when revealing one […]
